About this artwork

मिथुन (Mithuna) is a Sanskrit term used in Tantra most often translated as sexual union in a ritual context. It is the most important of the five makara and constitutes the main part of the Grand Ritual of Tantra variously known as Panchamakara, Panchatattva, and Tattva Chakra. Draw after a statue that depicts the "Loving Couple, Mithuna" in the Eastern Ganga dynasty, 13th century Orissa, India. It was a pleasure to complete the missing parts of the statue, enchanted me while drawing because this masterpiece really carries the message, sensitivity and tenderness of centuries.
