About this artwork

Shilo Shiv Suleman's piece comes from an inquiry into women and mythology. In her words: "In Varanasi, en route to the Kumbh Mela, I once asked a Sadhu, 'Why do we only worship the Goddesses but not the women in our homes? Can’t we kind of see that there’s actually a huge connection between the two?' And he looked at me and said, 'You know....' in a whole haze of smoke... 'If you want to be treated like a Goddess, then become one.' This thought churned in my head, and became this affirmation and poster."
