The Lion Slayer
This is a portrait of Hercules or Heracles with the Golden skin of the Nemean Lion. According to the legend Hercules defeated the Nemean lion by strangling him. Then he took the lions skin as a trophy of his victory over the beast. This represents a sort of paradox of who is really on top the lion, whose skin is resting like a trophy on top of the hero or the hero who actually defeated the beast. It raises a question of supremacy of animal or human. Who is actually on the top.
